Charity is that simple. Do it

I had prayed in a community with several masaajid. I didn't notice anything unusual with the shoes at the entry. People would simply pray and leave until I moved to a new and a completely different neighbourhood having just only one masjid. It is where I currently say my congregational prayers. I noticed that someone while leaving the masjid would arrange the shoes at the entrance. He would also turn them over to face the direction opposite to the usual way people put off their shoes while entering. This makes it easier to put them on whenever they are done with their ibaadah and coming out to leave. This is mostly after fajr prayers when I usually stayed back longer than usual.  I cannot say whether this action of charity involved one person or different people. Today, I was determined to identify the 'secret man'. I know like me, the person(s) is not from those people who leave the masjid early after the fajr prayers.  So as each team was exiting the door, I would come ou...

The Future of Education Post-Covid

Between November 17, 2019 when it first broke out and December 31 when it was officially reported to the World Health Organisation (WHO), no one hardly suspected that a local disease outbreak in the Wuhan City in the province of China was on a threat mission globally. Within a short span of three months, it graduated from being a local epidemic to a pandemic in the brand name of Corona Infectious Virus 2019 (COVID-19) in February 11, 2020. In fact, the prediction never came. When it eventually hit Nigeria on February 27 as just one index case as usual and later gradually ascending into a rising curve, people became more surprised: How an event of this worrying magnitude had not made the list of the traditional annual new year prophecies of the ‘men of God’ for the year 2020! As at June, 13, 2020, there are about 225,126 confirmed cases in Africa and over seven million worldwide. Out of this statistics, Nigeria account for 15,181 positioning the giant of Africa 52 nd in the world in ...

THE HISTORY OF BIRTHDAY

There was a statement that if you want to hide anything for the contemporary Muslims, put it in a book. I cannot agree less. Ours is a generation who chooses comfort and pastimes above reading. Despite the plethora of information online and offline in our time, we are in no way chips from the old blocks compared with the early Muslims. They led as models because they were readers and thinkers. They thought for others and were never thought for. They were trailblazers and not dolls. Unlike us, they were not led along the way like a dog behind its owner. They were disciplined, ascetic and principled. As for us, we are being technically enslaved because we still hold on to ignorance when it is no longer popular among the living. In a digital age, a Muslim proudly announces his birthday without ever caring to find out about its origin. He floods the social media with the pictures of his kid, wife or parent who is a year older! It never occurs to him to explore the same internet to read...

BIRTHDAY AMONG THE MUSLIMS: THE INTENT, THE LOGIC AND THE APPROACH

Bismillah was'salaatu Was'salaamu alaa rosuulillah. Islam has placed the Muslims in a unique status as the most civilized humans ever raised for mankind. However, disingenuous society has impregnated the pristine islamic traditions and ideologies. That unwholesome fusion has given birth to a contemporary age of confused Muslims. The rest of the world is helpless because the saviour has been rendered unsafe. The society is out of trace because the Muslims have been led too far into the wilderness.  End Time Muslims The goal in the emerging world is to technically refine the social conducts and view points of the Muslims. With this scientific 'polish-to-police' scheme, the Muslim majority have become apologetic to their faith. A number of us are nominal adherents.  Just introducing oneself as simply a Muslim is no longer adequate until the prefix 'moderate' is added. A moderate Muslim to describe anyone within the fold of pristine Islam is uncessary and ill-sugges...

PhD WITH FULL VEIL IN NIGERIA: Tribute to Prof. Odinko

Four days ago, I got an update from facebook to check a new post from Alhaji Sulaiman Oyaremi as usual. I saw a picture of a woman fully covered in hijab including hand glove and face cover being congratulated for her PhD degree. At that time it never occurred to me as something extraordinary. I never knew PhD in Niqob is  unprecedented not even in any of our Muslim established Universities. It was after many more posts started emerging from various sections of the social media that I realised the history that Dr Mrs Kafilat Motunrayo Oyaremi has made. She has done the never-heard in UI and in the entire Universities in the South West. There are yet to confirm insinuations that she is probably the first in the entire 170 Universities in Nigeria. Yes! Umu Abdullahi deserves all our praises and eulogies as a Ummah. She is our heroine and a celebrity. The mother of five has given us more ground to boast and more chances to proof that hijab does not and cannot hinder success of a Musli...

TO GET SCARED OR SCARE OTHERS IS USELESS. NO NEED FOR IT

Fellow Nigerians You might have received scare alert, text or audio or both from people abroad. They tell you frightening stories of how coronavirus has beaten the world's best medical systems and killing in thousands! They cry forecasting a worse disaster in Africa and possibly, the worst in Nigeria. God forbid!!  Fellow Nigerians! Listen to me. That judgement is useless. 1. God is wonderful. By His power, how many few soldiers have defeated an army of hundreds. Moses won over pharaoh. David over goliath. God may show mercy to the Africans and Nigeria like He did to the children of Israel in Egypt. He may give us power over the scourge like He never gave the giant nations. He once gave us over Ebola. 2. Africans are very religious nations. Nigerians are possibly the most religious in the world. Like no other nation, we believe in fasting and prayers. Yes, we may be more religious than being Godly but God still answers the sinners. Satan prayed in Q7:14 'spare my life till the ...

Blood and Health: Simple Engineering Explanation

Since my graduation with bachelor of Mechanical engineering over a dozen year ago, I haven't learnt anything more amazing and interesting than what I'm about to explain. Engineering is versatile as a career. Its curriculum is robust as a subject. I wrote about this in my book in 2015. https://www.amazon.com/Merits-Engineering-Engineers-Peace-lifeseries-Book-ebook/dp/B07J3LJB8X . Despite all I said about the profession as all professions combined in one, my latest exposure had revealed there is much to know about how engineering explains all life phenomenon.  So, I begin. The greatest thing that happens inside a man's body and keeps him alive is flow. In layman term, flow is movement or transportation of fluid. And again, in simple term, fluid is either gas (air, breathed in and out) or liquids. Blood Flow The major liquid flowing ceaselessly in our body is the blood. It is critical to understand that other transport materials in human system depends on blood flow. Hence, th...

The Clueless Farmer and His Dog

The story of a farmer and his only dog is as old as the farmer's dozen problems. In fact, the myriads of challenges confronting the farmer and his entire household is at the instance of his dog. It is a disturbing scenario but yet an interesting story. A good playwright would make it a good drama in the Nollywood.  The farmer lives on the meat hunted by his dog. Besides bringing food on the table, the dog plays a critical role in his earnings and economy. Processing and sales of the extra meats and products from the game draw incomes to the farmer. The dog also protects him and his territory. He earns respects from the security provided by his dog.  However, the dog has for years been complaining of neglect. Specifically, he demands a new tearing teeth. His teeth has worn out due to aging and over use. He barks for replacement, reshaping or reshining of its canine. He longs to be a better service provider. Rather than responding, the farmer chooses to ignore. He relies on the ...

THE MARRIAGE OF GREED II

In my last article with this title, I encouraged ladies not to mistaken money for love and love for money. I extolled the virtue of not rejecting a marriage proposal of an ambitious, religious and well-behaved suitors on account of their pocket's light-weight. You can also read it here, if you are yet to.  https://uncleyat.blogspot.com/2020/06/the-marriage-of-greed.html . That article got me different feedback from readers across the world. From the side of the women, most are of the opinions that the majority of men do not deserve such considerations. They do not appreciate the patience and understanding of their women during their time of struggle let alone reward these wives for their sacrifices when they eventually come out even. Rather they marry a new wife and start oppressing their first true love. An afternoon or evening bride is allowed to ride over the one with whom they started early in the morning their journey of a happy home.  Naturally, the trees that started be...

CORRUPTION AND INSECURITY

Corruption, according to the Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary (online version), is a dishonest or illegal behavior, especially of people in authority; or the act or effect of making someone change from moral to immoral standards of behaviour. It is one of the worst epidemics that have afflicted many countries of the world. Act of bribery among public servants, abuse of offices by political appointees and mismanagement of public resources by those in authority have rendered two twin havocs on nations. It has primarily hindered the growth and development.  Corruption has also latently destroyed the existing peace. Killings, kidnapping and civil unrest stem from reactionary responses of frustrated populace. Corruption as a vanguard of Insecurity: The Cycle When greed and selfishness define the character of the privileged few in the society, the fire of insecurity has been inevitably lit. The media, online and offline, is saturated with sad news of violence and criminal acts on...
